Stillwater privacy policy
Effective 3 October 2026
Stillwater is a Chrome extension that watches parts of web pages you choose and tells you when they change. This policy explains what information it handles. The short version: Stillwater runs on your computer. It does not collect, transmit, sell or share personal information, and nothing it sees is sent to us.
Who we are
Stillwater is made and operated by Kehr & Co. LLC, based in Georgia, United States (“we”, “us”). Contact: hello@kehrandco.com.
What Stillwater stores on your device
| Information | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| The addresses and page parts you choose to watch, with their names and settings | To know what to check and how often | Your browser’s extension storage |
| The most recent text of each watched part, and a history of changes and failed checks | To compare each check with the last one and show you what changed | Your browser’s extension storage |
| Your Pro licence code, if you buy one | To unlock Pro features | Your browser’s extension storage |
This includes the text of the web pages you choose to watch (website content). It is stored locally only and never transmitted to us or anyone else. This information never leaves your device. We have no servers that receive it and no way to see it. Stillwater doesn’t use Chrome Sync storage. Uninstalling Stillwater, or deleting a monitor, deletes what it stored.
How checking works
On the schedule you set, Stillwater loads each watched page from your computer, just as your browser would, reads the part you chose and compares it with the previous check. Stillwater itself only asks for the addresses you chose to watch, and it never sends anything to us. What the website then does depends on how the page is checked:
- Quick read (the default): one request for the page, sent without your cookies, so the site sees an anonymous visitor. If the site redirects that request to another address, Stillwater follows it, as a browser would.
- Background tab: Chrome opens the page in a tab it closes afterwards. Like any page you open, it loads the page’s own images, scripts and other resources, which can come from other companies’ servers (for example analytics or advertising the website uses), and it uses your normal browser session and cookies for that site.
- When you start watching something you picked on a page, Stillwater checks that the quick read sees what you picked. If it doesn’t (usually because the page builds that part with JavaScript), Stillwater switches that monitor to background-tab mode and says so in its history. You can switch it back in the monitor’s settings.
What Stillwater does not do
- It doesn’t read your browsing history or pages you visit, apart from a page you explicitly ask it to watch.
- Stillwater contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, fingerprinting or crash-reporting code, and it loads no remote code. (Pages checked in a background tab run their own code, as they would in any tab.)
- It doesn’t require an account.
- It doesn’t sell, rent or share information with anyone, because it doesn’t collect any.
Permissions
- Active tab and scripting: when you click “Watch something on this page”, to show the picker on that tab so you can choose a part. Nothing is read unless you click.
- Optional access to specific sites: only for sites you choose to watch, and only after you approve Chrome’s prompt, so Stillwater can check them. You can remove this access at any time in Chrome’s extension settings.
- Storage: to keep your monitors, history and settings on your device.
- Alarms: to run checks on schedule.
- Notifications: to tell you when something changes or a check stops working.
- Offscreen document: to read the part you chose out of a fetched page, privately, without opening a tab.
Buying Pro
Pro is bought on a checkout page run by our payment processor, Stripe. Stripe receives the details you enter there (such as your email address and card) under its own privacy policy; we receive your email address and a record of the purchase so we can send your licence code and help if something goes wrong. The licence code is checked inside the extension, offline. The extension never sends your monitors, history or licence code anywhere.
Exports
If you save a backup or export history, Stillwater creates a file on your device. What happens to that file afterwards is up to you.
Children
Stillwater isn’t directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the effective date above and describe the change in the extension’s release notes. We won’t start collecting information without asking you first.
