Fernhold privacy policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
Fernhold is a strength log for iPhone, made by Kehr & Co. LLC, a Georgia limited liability company (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the app and these web pages.
The short version
Fernhold has no account and no servers of ours. Your workouts stay on your phone unless you save a backup file somewhere yourself. Purchases are handled by Apple and RevenueCat, which receive an anonymous app id, your device’s vendor identifier and the App Store receipt. They never receive anything you logged.
What the app stores, and where
Every set, workout, program, setting and note you enter is stored in a database on your phone. It stays there unless you save a backup file yourself. There is no account, no sign-in and no server of ours, so we never hold a copy of your log.
If your phone backs up to iCloud or to a computer, that Apple backup includes this app the same way it includes your other apps. We cannot see or open it.
After each finished session the app keeps a backup snapshot on your phone. You can also save a full backup file (“Save a backup file” in Settings) or a CSV of every set, anywhere you choose: Files, a computer, or another app you pick. Those files go only where you put them, and the app makes no copy in iCloud or anywhere else by itself. Your Apple Health weight is not in them (see below). Export and import are free, always. If the app ever cannot open its log, its recovery screen can share the log file through the share sheet; like a backup file, it goes only where you send it.
Apple Health, only if you turn it on
Both switches are in You, then Settings, and both are off until you turn them on.
“Save workouts to Apple Health”: each session you finish on this iPhone after you turn it on is added to Apple Health as a strength workout, with its real start and end time and the names of its exercises. That switch only writes to Health, and nothing goes to us. Workouts already in Health stay there when you turn it off or delete everything; remove them in the Health app.
Use my weight from Apple Health is a separate switch, also off until you turn it on: then the app reads your most recent weight and its date from Health, and nothing else, and shows it as your body weight. It is kept only on this iPhone, in a small file outside the app’s database that the phone’s own iCloud and computer backups leave out, and in no backup file the app makes and no export; it is never sent to us. Turning the switch off or deleting everything removes it.
- Only workouts are written: no energy, heart rate, distance or body measurements, because the app measures none of them. The only thing ever read is the most recent weight, and only with its switch on.
- Health data is never sent to us or to anyone else, never used for advertising, and never stored in the app’s backups or exports.
- Apple keeps what is in the Health app under Apple’s own privacy policy. You can turn off the app’s access at any time in the Health settings.
Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight
You can start a session, log sets, ask what is next or what you lifted last time, start a rest timer and finish a session by talking to Siri or from the Shortcuts app, even with Fernhold closed. This collects no new data and adds no connection.
- Sets you give Siri or Shortcuts are kept in the app’s own storage on your phone until the app adds them to your log. They never go to us.
- When you describe several sets in one sentence, the app reads the numbers on your phone. On phones with Apple Intelligence it can use Apple’s on-device language model for sentences in an unusual form. That model runs on the phone, and its answer is only used when every number in it is one you said.
- Siri itself is Apple’s. Apple handles what you say to Siri, and the suggestions Siri makes from what you do in the app, under Apple’s own privacy policy. The app receives the action and what you said for it (the numbers, an exercise name, or the sentence you dictated) and keeps only the sets.
- On a locked phone, Siri asks you to unlock before it reads or saves anything from your log. Only the rest timer, which shows nothing from your log, runs without unlocking.
- Your exercises and recent sessions are added to Spotlight, the search index on your phone, so you can find them there. Spotlight’s index stays on the phone.
The one connection: the purchase check
Fernhold is free to use, with one optional one-time purchase (Pro). Apple takes the payment through the App Store. To check and restore a purchase, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchases service, and contacts it when the app opens and when you buy or restore. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app id it creates, your device’s vendor identifier and the App Store receipt, which is a record of your purchases; as with any internet connection, it also sees your device’s IP address. It does not receive anything you logged. RevenueCat’s own policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
We see sales totals and anonymous ids in RevenueCat. That is why the App Store privacy label lists “Analytics” next to purchase history: it is for counting sales, never for profiling you. We cannot connect an id to a name, an email or anything you logged.
What we do not do
- No analytics, crash reporting or advertising code is in the app.
- No tracking, no advertising identifier, and no data sold or shared for advertising.
- No health, diet or nutrition data is collected by us. Nothing from Apple Health ever leaves your phone through the app. If you turn them on, the app writes each session you finish on this iPhone to Apple Health, and reads your most recent weight to show it as your body weight, and nothing more.
- These web pages load no script, no cookies and nothing from other sites. Like any web host, ours may keep ordinary request records, such as an IP address, for a short time to keep the site running. We add no analytics.
Reminders and the rest-timer alert
Reminders and the rest-timer alert are local notifications scheduled by the app on your phone. No server is involved. Fernhold asks for notification permission the first time a rest timer needs it, or when you turn on reminders.
Widget, Live Activity and Control Center controls
The rest timer can post a local notification when rest ends and show a countdown on the Lock Screen (a Live Activity). The app also has a home screen and Lock Screen widget that shows your week, and two Control Center controls. These parts of the app read what they show from the app’s shared storage (an App Group) on your phone. They run on the phone only, collect nothing and make no connection. By default, what shows on the Lock Screen is generic: the rest alert says “Rest over” and “Time for your next set”, the Live Activity shows only the timer and “Rest”, reminders say “Time to train”, and the Lock Screen widget shows no day name. The switch “Show exercise details on the Lock Screen” in Settings, off until you turn it on, adds the exercise, the next set and the day.
Feedback and email
“Send feedback” opens your Mail app with a blank message to us. Nothing is sent unless you send it. If you write to us, we use your email only to reply and delete it when the conversation is done. Please leave out anything you would not want in an email.
Deleting your data
In the app, You, then Privacy, then Delete everything removes, from your phone: the app’s database (every workout, program and setting), its backup snapshots, the export and import copies the app kept, every reminder, anything waiting from Siri along with the app’s Spotlight entries and Siri’s suggestions for it, your Apple Health weight file, and any log file the app set aside while recovering from a damaged file. It also ends any rest timer showing on the Lock Screen, removes the app’s notifications from Notification Center, and empties the widget. If a step cannot finish, the app names it and asks you to run Delete everything again. It asks you to type the word first, because we keep no copy to recover from.
It cannot remove:
- files you exported or shared yourself (backup files, CSVs, exports you saved or sent). Delete them where you put them.
- an Apple backup of your phone (iCloud or computer), which Apple manages.
- workouts the app added to Apple Health. Delete them in the Health app.
- the purchase record Apple and RevenueCat keep. To clear RevenueCat’s anonymous record, write to us and we will ask RevenueCat to delete it.
Deleting the app removes its data on the phone the same way. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Your choices
Everything you log is on your phone, where you can change it, export it or delete it. Because we hold none of it, we have nothing to hand over or correct. The only things we can hold about you are an email you sent us and, through RevenueCat, the anonymous purchase record above. To see, correct or delete either, write to hello@kehrandco.com. We reply within two business days, charge nothing, and treat nobody differently for asking.
Not advice
Fernhold records what you enter. It does not give training, nutrition or medical advice. Talk to a doctor before you start or change a training program if you have a health concern.
Children
Fernhold is not directed to children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone through the app beyond the purchase check above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date before the app version that needs it is released. We will not start collecting data quietly.
