Where is my data?
On your phone. There is no account and no server of ours. In the app, You, then Privacy, shows it on one screen. The privacy policy has the full detail.
Move to a new phone
There is no account to sign in to, so your log moves as one file. Do this before you log anything on the new phone, because a restore replaces what is there.
- Back up. On the old phone, open You, then Settings, then Save a backup file (or You, then Export, then Full backup). When the share sheet opens, save the file to Files or another app you pick, or AirDrop it to the new phone. It is saved only where you choose.
- Move the file. On the new phone, install Fernhold and make sure the file is there: in the Files app (On My iPhone or wherever you saved it), or wherever AirDrop saved it.
- Restore. On the new phone, open You, then Export, then Restore a backup, and pick the file. A snapshot of what was on the new phone is kept first, and Undo restore brings it back until you change anything.
Pro comes back with Restore purchase, below.
Bring in your history from another app
Fernhold reads a CSV export from other workout apps. Each app puts its export in a slightly different place and the menus change, so check that app’s help if you cannot find it.
- In the other app, export your workouts as a CSV file and save it to the Files app on your iPhone. (If the other app runs on another kind of phone, move its file across first.)
- In Fernhold, open You, then Import, then Choose a file.
- If the file does not say whether its weights are in pounds or kilograms, the app asks.
- Check the preview, match each exercise name to a new exercise or one you already have, and tap Import.
Nothing already in your log is overwritten, and you can undo an import for 7 days from the same screen.
Restore a purchase
Pro is bought once through the App Store. On any phone signed in to the same Apple Account, open You, then About (the Pro screen), and tap Restore purchase. If nothing comes back, check that you are signed in to the Apple Account that bought it, then write to us.
Delete everything
Open You, then Privacy, then Delete everything, and type the word when asked. It removes your workouts, programs, settings, snapshots and reminders from the phone. It also ends a rest timer showing on the Lock Screen, removes Fernhold’s notifications from Notification Center and empties the widget. If a step cannot finish, the app names it; run Delete everything again. It cannot undo, because we never had a copy. Export first if you might want it later. It cannot remove files you exported yourself, an Apple backup of your phone, or the purchase record Apple and RevenueCat keep. Delete everything also removes any file the app set aside while recovering from a damaged log. The privacy policy lists each limit.
If Fernhold does not open
If something goes wrong while starting up, Fernhold tries again by itself, then shows a screen with Try again. Close the app, open it again, then press Try again. If it keeps happening, restart your phone, then write to us with the “Details for support” line from that screen.
- Could not read its log. Nothing was changed. If your phone was just restarted, unlock it, then press Try again. You can also share the file to keep a copy.
- Your log file is damaged. Fernhold found damage and did not open or change the file. You can put back one of the snapshots it keeps after each finished session; it asks first, and the damaged file is moved aside, not deleted.
- Update the app. Your log was saved by a newer version. Update Fernhold from the App Store; nothing was changed.
Each of these three screens can also share the database file to Files or another app, so nothing is trapped on the phone.
Siri and Shortcuts
No setup is needed. The phrases work once Fernhold has been opened, and they work with the app closed. Say the app name the way it shows under the icon. For example:
- “Start my workout in Fernhold” starts today’s planned session.
- “Log a set in Fernhold” Siri asks for the weight and reps.
- “Log my sets in Fernhold” say them in one go, such as bench 185 for 5, 5 and 4. The app reads them back before saving more than one set.
- “What did I lift last time for bench in Fernhold” last time’s sets, with the date.
- “Start a rest timer in Fernhold” a countdown on the Lock Screen.
- “Finish my workout in Fernhold” checks with you, then saves the session.
On a locked phone, Siri asks you to unlock before it reads or saves anything from your log. The same actions are in the Shortcuts app. Settings, then Siri and Shortcuts, has the full list and a box to try a sentence.
Refunds
Apple runs refunds for App Store purchases, and we cannot issue them. Ask through your purchase history at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund turns Pro off, your log, history, export and import stay as they were. Nothing you logged is deleted.
Reminders are not arriving
Notifications may be off for Fernhold in the iPhone’s own Settings. Turn them on there, then check the reminder switch in the app’s Settings. Fernhold asks for notification permission the first time a rest timer needs it, or when you turn on reminders.
What shows on the Lock Screen
By default the Lock Screen shows nothing from your log: the rest alert says “Rest over” and “Time for your next set”, the rest timer shows only the countdown and “Rest”, reminders say “Time to train”, and the Lock Screen widget shows no day name. To see the exercise, the next set and the day there, turn on Settings, then Show exercise details on the Lock Screen.
Is it a coach?
No. Fernhold records what you enter and works out loads from the rules and plates you set. It does not give training, nutrition or medical advice.
Report a bug or share an idea
In the app, Settings, then Send feedback opens Mail with a blank message to us. Or write to hello@kehrandco.com. Start the subject with “Bug:” or “Idea:”. A bug that loses or hides data is the first thing we fix. Please include your iPhone model, the iOS version, the app version (Settings, About) and what you did. Leave out anything private.
